Twenty-something proud Angeleno and foodie! I. Love. Food. I’m inspired by traditional homecooking methods. I’m an adventurous eater…most of the time. I used to be a terrible baker, but now I am just a terrible baker of cookies. I’m a self-professed Rice Fiend. I love meat, and I will NEVER EVER become a vegetarian and/or a vegan. I hate it when food gets wasted (beware, you bird eaters, who don’t take home leftovers), and I try to do everything from scratch as much as possible.
This blog is my personal food, cooking, and rants-and-raves-about-life journey. I’m interested in everything, expert at nothing. This is not going to be just a food blog. I can’t pull off that dreamy, creamy food blogger stuff because I’m too impatient and too clumsy. Even online, when my physical-ness does not matter as much, I lack that kind of grace. I’m the most effervescent grumpy foodie I know. I have lots to rant and rave about. Here you will find me attempt to reach my life goal of baking an amazing batch of chocolate chip cookies, stay sane, and try to make my tiny home less cluttered (and more functional) and pleasing to the eye. Stay for the recipes, stay for the anecdotes. You don’t have to stay for my opinionated vents, but since this my corner of the world, it’ll be there. Feel free to skip those posts — ain’t gonna hate.

My…what interesting photo quality you have. How… inconsistent. Some of it is great though! What do you use?
My first food/recipe pics were taken with a 2008 Canon digicam. The kind you trample people for during Black Friday when Greedy Brain Lobe turns off the rest of your common sense, and then regret purchasing later because your pictures suck. I have a Lumix LX-5 now and a Canon Rebel XS
(which I have not yet used for this blog).
Why are you so sarcastic and grumpy?
Life is much more realistic and funny through a sardonic lens because real life is not always dreamy, creamy, perky and bright. I had a rough and interesting childhood and my writing voice is a product of that. That doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the First World luxury of having a
soapbox blog to keep me in check.
Why do you start so many posts with nce upon a time?
I love fairy tales and mythology. I love how they start with “Once upon a time” because it sets you up with something to get lost in. Also, the looks cool. Also also, I love storytelling. I love writing. I love turning mundane things into a Story About Life. Also also also, my dad used to tease us kids growing up by saying, “nce upon a time…!” to get us to shut up and pay attention and then leave it hanging. It was a tease. I will not do that to you. I will complete the tales. I usually have an anecdote or memory associated with the food/recipe/subject of the entry, and for me personally, this is the best way to preface them.
Are there any foods you will not touch or eat?
Yes! I hate dill, and most beans. I have an irrational fear of beans, especially pinto and black.
