Super Healthy Oatmeal Bowl


Wow. It’s the last day of January already. It’s kind of funny: when you’re a kid, you can’t wait to grow up. Now that I’m an adult, it’s all going too fast for me. Can’t I just stay 25 years old?

Today, L.A. is dreary and wet. I’m trying to be mature about it (CA needs WATER!!) and not sing the “rain, rain, go away, song” because I hate rain. Oh well. At least it’s happening on a Sunday and I get to spend it with the husband. ❤

This post’s recipe is in response to my eating a shitload of Sour Cream & Onion potato chips yesterday. I felt short-term jubilation and shortly after, immense shame. Uh oh. Segue…

il_570xn-439014654_21asnce upon a time, in college, I got really wasted with some friends, stumbled back to my apartment, and passed out. When I came to at 3am, I was starving. Without even thinking, without even breathing, I inhaled three cans of Pringles Sour Cream & Onion (they were 99cents back in the day, so I stocked up) and a small tub of sour cream. I felt amazing and sated. Thirty minutes later, I threw it all up and felt immense shame. Oh, those college days.

Chips are my biggest weakness. Especially that flavor. I need that crunch and that salt. It’s bad. It’s an addiction.

Anyway, to make up for yesterday’s binge, here is a super loaded healthy oatmeal bowl for breakfast. It’s got steel-cut oats, organic quinoa, hemp seeds, flaxseed, chia seeds, Greek yogurt, wheat germ, almonds, and organic honey and maple syrup. You won’t find this in a restaurant because they’ll try to justify having all that healthy goodness by jacking up the price. Make it yourself and treat your body right.

Healthy Oatmeal Bowl for Two


Rinse your quinoa first before cooking. They will taste less bitter.

Do not cook quinoa and steel cut oats together.

Be creative. I drizzled some jam for a fruity kick.

After mixing all your protein grains, make the yogurt (or milk) mixture to add on top of the grains. Mix with maple syrup and honey; adjust the sweetness according to your own taste. Pour on top of your grains.




I’m almost out of eyeshadow. HAHA! I’m sorry. If Teenage Me ever uttered that line, it would be a joke. I’ve only started wearing eyeshadow last year, and I know I’m doing it wrong. Anyway, I have one of those NYX trio palettes, and it’s winding down, not because of my usage, but because I’m a klutz and I dropped it and half of each cake tumbled onto the floor. I’m thinking about updating my makeup game, and trying to stay green about it. But, I think I’m always going to be a skincare fiend above all. Your skin needs to be healthy to take all that makeup. I’m looking into getting some samples from Paula’s Choice.

I love Steph’s links. They are not your typical point at products/shopping links. A lot of it is food for thought. Pardon the pun. (I also love lists.) I really enjoyed reading about the behind-the-scenes of a day at Panda Express.

Happy New Year!

I’m a little late, folks, but I’m here. This year my resolutions are much more realistic than they have ever been. I no longer – through Wishful Thinking and sporadic bursts of energy and laziness – wish to be half my size. I think I’ve resigned myself that it’s not going to happen. Instead, I’ve pared down my usual Resolutions to just a handful:

  1. Be KINDER to myself. Stop feeling so guilty about everything because I DON’T have control over everything. Be more mindful of myself. Worry less. Simplify.
  2. Visit one museum a month.
  3. Finish the Dark Tower series.
  4. Be more consistent with keeping the house tidy. Simplify.
  5. Eat. MORE. Vegetables. Eat more oatmeal. Move more.

That’s it. Last year, and the year before (and the year before that), I had 10+ things because I’m a hopeless romantic moonlighting as a mythical superhero who could do everything. Nope. Not realistic. It’s much easier to complete a list of fewer things.

And finally, as you know, I had to teach myself to be more self-disciplined regarding baking cookies. Baking cookies was my Everest. I think I’ve got it down now, but this is the year I perfect it without all the nervousness. A few sites helped to educate me: The Science of the Chocolate Chip Cookie, and learning about the different types of flours.

In keeping with trying to not have lofty expectations for everything in my life, but maintaining positive energy, I wish to be more productive this year and be proud of it. Also, I wish that musically and cinematically, 2016 will be a better year. Sorry, 2015, compared to 2014, your music did not blow me away. I need another Lost in the Dream from the War on Drugs to rock my socks!!!
